Recent TV Shows

Some of the recent tv shows I’ve enjoyed (or not)

  • TV Shows: Stranger Things (Season 3) by Matt & Ross Duffer 5 stars. This show just keeps getting consistently better. I watched every moment of this season with a big dopey grin.
  • TV Shows: The Great British Baking Show by Andy Devonshire & Scott Tankard 5 stars. A charming way to relax and learn a bit more about baking while watching delightfully British people.
  • TV Shows: Game of Thrones (Season 8) by David Benioff & D.B. Weiss 3 stars. The last season felt rushed and predictable. I'd much rather read the book ... maybe someday.
  • TV Shows: Runaways (Season 1) by Stephanie Savage & Josh Schwartz 4 stars. I thought this was a pretty great adaptation of the comic. Great cast, great story.
  • TV Shows: Stranger Things (Season 2) by Matt & Ross Duffer 5 stars. I wasn't sure how the Duffer brothers would follow up on the first season, but they delivered in spades!
  • TV Shows: The Defenders by Douglas Petrie & Marco Ramirez 3 stars. You know it's a pretty good series when you're disappointed that it felt so short.
  • TV Shows: Hasan Minhaj: Homecoming King by Hasan Minhaj 5 stars. This far surpassed my already high expectations. Hilarious, smart, and enlightening.
  • TV Shows: Iron Fist (Season 1) by Scott Buck 3 stars. Not quite as high quality as the other Netflix Marvel series, but entertaining nonetheless.
  • TV Shows: Trevor Noah: Afraid of the Dark by Trevor Noah 5 stars. I've been enjoying Trevor Noah on the Daily Show, but hadn't seen his standup before. I was happily impressed!
  • TV Shows: Jim Gaffigan: Cinco by Jim Gaffigan 5 stars. One of my favorite comedians, Gaffigan makes just about everything funny without stooping to crass language.
  • TV Shows: The Crown by Peter Morgan 5 stars. I really loved this look at the beginning of Queen Elizabeth II's reign, and can't wait for the next season to begin.
  • TV Shows: Luke Cage (Season 1) by Cheo Hodari Coker 4 stars. Easily my favorite so far of the Marvel superhero shows on Netflix. Not just fun, but culturally relevant and hopeful.
  • TV Shows: Stranger Things (Season 1) by Matt & Ross Duffer 5 stars. A direct hit to the 80s nostalgia center in my brain. Great characters, an engrossing story, well told and scored.
  • TV Shows: Galavant (Season 2) by Dan Fogelman 5 stars. The second (and sadly final) season of Galavant was even better than the first.
  • TV Shows: Castle: Full Series by Andrew W. Marlowe 4 stars. Great cast chemistry, somewhat predictable "mysteries", and writing that spanned the spectrum. All in all good fun.
  • TV Shows: Daredevil (Season 1) by Drew Goddard 3 stars. Dark and brutal with great characters, an gripping plot, and one of the best villains I’ve seen in a series in years
  • TV Shows: Nick Offerman: American Ham by Nick Offerman 5 stars. Like many of Ron Swanson’s adages, the ten tips for life in this special are simultaneously deep and hilarious.
  • TV Shows: Parks & Recreation: Full Series by Greg Daniels & Michael Schur 5 stars. The first sitcom in a long time to leave me with a dopey grin through every single episode. I love every character.
  • TV Shows: Galavant (Season 1) by Dan Fogelman 4 stars. A goofy, quirky musical comedy that we’re still singing along with.
  • TV Shows: Jessica Jones (Season 1) by Simon Cellan Jones, S.J. Clarkson, and others 3 stars. Netflix continues to deliver in the Marvel TV universe with the gritty, disturbing, and dark Jessica Jones.
